Wild animals are welcome here.
A warm Sunday morning presented a conundrum of sorts this past weekend. No one had a sports game, there was nowhere to be and no one to see. A rarity this time of the year in my house. The parental figures of the house found a corner of the house and began brain storming. Of course there were playgrounds and miniature golf along with many inside activities. However, the sun was shinning and the temperature not expected to exceed 70 degrees Fahrenheit, the adults of the house knew what to do.
A backpack was quickly prepared with sunblock and bug spray. Bottles of water and snacks were placed into the bag with care, and once all supplies were packed, the children climbed into the vehicle to a place that they have not been to since last year. The first sign that the children realized that they were making a special trip was leaving our home state and heading towards a popular resort. When we pulled into the parking lot to the resort, groans chimed from the backseat. The frowns from seeing a golf course were quickly replaced with smiles when they saw the entrance at the end of the parking lot for the zoo.
The happy young adventurers were excited by the adventure that had presented itself to them. They were greeted by lemurs, turtles and sloths. The albino alligator smiled from under his indoor waterfall before the girls saw moles digging their holes. The emu and the zebra were chilling under trees while the cheetahs took turns keeping their eyes out for their big little fans. The giant turtle went on a slow speed chase to attempt to grab Daddy’s shoes with the kangaroos watched the show. The crane sang to the children while the eagle enjoyed her perch. The wolves relaxed in the shade and the donkeys appeared unamused in their pen. Last, but not least, the two red pandas pranced around as we exited the zoo.
The two children who had initially intended to spend their day in front of the television had an amazing time. The only follow up they needed was the well deserved nap on the way home. It was a zoo of a time!
