How does a paint kit for $1.25 sound to you?
Yesterday, my husband took my youngest two daughters to the dollar store while their mommy went to pick up laundry detergent. During the quick trip to the grocery store, my husband picked up two Halloween painting kits for $1.25 each which lead to pleading the whole way home to paint. I guess he figured that my purchase of laundry detergent would come in handy if the artwork transferred onto clothing. The weather was miserable and we had spent two soccer games in drizzle so any activity indoors sounded good to me even if it could result in a mess. So after we got home and got changed out of their uniforms, we went to work.
The girls waited as patiently as they possible could as I laid out newspaper and prepared a water cup with paper towels nearby. Then I pulled out each kit and was surprised what these dollar store packages consisted of. These kits included a small picture, four bright paint colors, a black plastic easel, and a paintbrush perfectly sized for small hands. Although they did not have the top of line easels and pictures which I expected with the low price tag, I was very happy with the quality and quantity of the paints. With brushes in hand, the ladies began working on their Halloween creations.
My youngest had characters with pumpkins and she had every square inch of her 4″ x 6″ picture covered in paint. The canvas which was really white cardboard actually held up by the overwhelming amount of paint this child covered the entire picture with. She was so excited when it was finally dried an hour later and made sure everyone knew that they were free of wet paint. Her oldest sister who can be very artistic at times, lost interest with painting a haunted house about ten minutes in as she was distracted by the tooth that she lost at the soccer field earlier in the day. After all, who would be distracted thinking about a fairy stopping by the house later with cash in hand?
For the $1.25 price tag for each paint kit, these ladies definitely got Daddy’s two dollars and two quarters back in terms of a good time. My daughters love being creative and they are absolutely crazy about Halloween. Arguably the best part was that no laundry detergent was needed to remove paint off of clothes. It was a painting good time!
