I’ll Grab The Paint

This morning was one of those dreary September mornings that followed a rainy night. We had wet grass compounded by gray skies and to my middle daughter, the morning was just awful. Following our last soccer game today, she comes up to me and says that she needs painting session. That girl knew she did not have to go further than her momma to get painting on.

Shortly after arriving at home, I grabbed some brushes, a package of washable paints and some wooden cutouts. I laid out a ton of newspaper and prepared myself for the mess ahead. Both she and her younger sister picked out what they wanted and painted until they could not anymore. Later in the day, they drew on oversized posters so that their wood cutouts had backgrounds. Everyone was happy and now we have new artwork to hang up.

I honestly have not spent a lot of money on my art supplies, but they pay off in big dividends. A dollar or discount store is where I go for paint brushes, canvases and wood cutouts. I tend to go to a crafting store or sometimes the local grocery store will have paints. Personally, I love using washable paints because it does not matter how much newspaper I lay out, paint will find a way to clothes and/or tables. If you do not have newspaper readily available, I highly recommend saving the weekly ads that come in the mail. At the end of the day, the art projects maybe cost less than $10 as the paint and brushes are often used several times before they are tossed.

The next time the kids are having an off day, try a little paint. You never know what they will create!
