What happens when you turn the radio on and your favorite type music has been replaced?
Yesterday was just one of those morning that it was a miracle that we got out the door on time. Everyone was racing around the house getting ready, especially when the potential winter day that had been forecasted by the local weathermen never happened. So when I finally had my daughters in the car and turn on the ignition, instead of hearing a top 40 song we were greeted by Christmas music. To be fair, its not Thanksgiving yet and two of our stations turned into Christmas channels until the end of the calendar year. I was surprised by the unexpected music and my children were mildly entertained while listening to a song about a reindeer.
Once the song was over, I took my chances by turning on the CD in the player and then faced children’s music. With a switch of a button we went from a reindeer to ants and when I attempted to go back to the radio, I quickly discovered that we were stuck as the vehicle radio decided we needed to listen to the marching insects instead. The vehicle warranty had expired in January and the intermittent radio problems started shortly thereafter. Although this inconvenience happens a couple times a month and the vehicle has no recall to address the problem, we are left to either replacing the radio out of pocket or sticking it out when it happens. Normally, I end up checking for a software update and rebooting the radio. At this point of the trip, we had two options of listening to the ants or going with no music at all. I was not about to upset the young passengers in the backseat. Once the vehicle was stopped, I was able to reboot the radio and was once again free to make a music choice.
As for the change of radio programming, it is not the first time we had been shocked by turning on genre to be confused by another. My husband had a favorite talk radio station since he was able to drive in the 1990s. Around 2016, he had turned on his beloved talk show and was treated to country music instead. That time the station had been purchased and in the middle of the night, the hosts were replaced by music that had no DJ. Luckily for him, his favorite local radio personalities would eventually hit the podcast circuit, but the damage had been done with his opinion of the radio station.
So whether its Christmas, children’s or country music, a little advance notice would be great. A radio who does not have a sense of humor would be awesome too!
