What happens when a party goer misses his mommy?
Today we held one of our daughters’ birthday party at a popular indoor trampoline park and in all honesty, we should have been prepared for craziness especially with a full moon in the sky. We handed out invitations before Thanksgiving and the first sign that it was going to be a challenge was that most of the kids invited could not make it. At the end, we had our minimum ten party goers at the last minute thanks in part to a kid who wanted to bring his neighborhood buddy to the party. We had a gift bag for everyone and I had a list of children with their parents’ phone numbers except for the neighborhood kid. As fate turns out, that was the phone number that we needed the most.
For the first hour of the party, almost all of the parents stayed and everyone jumped until they just could not anymore. Then it was time to go the room and that’s when we all realized that we had a problem. The kid who came with their friend started crying and attempted to hide in the corner of the room. While I handed out pizza, cake and drinks while pleasing some who were picky eaters, my husband made a couple calls until he got a hold of that child’s father who was able to calm him down from what had evolved into a tantrum. However, when all the other children were grabbing the gift bags to give to my daughter, the little boy ran away in the chaos. My husband who thought that the disaster was fixed now went on a mission to find the party goer who ended up between an arcade game and a staircase while the birthday girl’s daddy now was missing the opening of presents. Eventually, the invitee’s mom came and took the little boy from her neighborhood home at the end of the party. However, as we were attempting to leave, that mom came back in as he lost his treat bag during his moment and we were able to give him a replacement bag as we had an extra one.
I attempted to make the party run as smooth as possible during all the difficulty, but all the other children seemed to have a good time. The majority of the children did not seem to be affected by the upset child. I hope he had a better evening!
