We’ve Got A Problem

What do you do when the car meows at you?

That’s right, the car was meowing today when my oldest daughter came out of a department store to head back to school with her college friend. The classmate’s car engine was a warm toaster today to a kitten who was apparently attempting to seek shelter by the abnormally cold fall day. So between the two girls, they figured out how to open the hood and found a little guy who was scared by the attention. Little did they know, the small feline was stuck and need more help than the two young shoppers could provide. So they call the only person they knew in the automotive business.

Of course, I answered the phone. My oldest rarely calls me at work so when my phone started ringing, I knew something was wrong. My daughter said that there was a problem, but don’t stress. I am pretty sure it is in the mom’s job description to worry and my mind started dancing. She takes a deep breath and tells me that there is a kitten stuck between the engine and a plastic part, just out of reach. They were in need of any kind of help even if it was just guidance to how to safely remove the cat or who they could call. Before calling roadside assistance, I knew who I could talk to for some instructions.

In the time it took from getting out of my office to the body shop, a man in the parking lot had heard the commotion and attempted to assist. The kitten had started to shimmy himself down to the skid plate where he was now completely trapped without an escape route. I put the call on speaker as a vehicle technician spoke while the man to safely remove the feline. Once the little guy was in a pair of arms, my daughter asks me if I want a new cat. Luckily for my own tuxedo kitten, an older lady offered to take the feline.

We always hope our children make good decisions and today it was saving a kitten’s life. Remember, it’s that time of year, check the car before starting it up!
