Adults Behaving Badly

After some convincing yesterday, my husband and I went to a famous buffet restaurant chain with the girls for dinner and we got a very unexpected show. Luckily for us, our kids had no clue what they saw and we vacated before it ugly. At least it was a place where you pay at the time of ordering.

Perhaps the writing was in the parking lot when we pulled in. Parking was at a premium and there were certainly some interesting characters exiting the restaurant. We went inside, paid and then struggled to find an available table which we eventually found one in the back of the restaurant. Within a minute our teenage server greeted us and he seemed to be polite.

The food was not great and the bathroom needed a little cleaning. We were enjoying dessert when a lady two tables over stood up and started yelling at our server saying that he couldn’t be the only server. The teenager turned around and matched her voice saying that they were short handed due to a call off. We thought that it was over, but a man at the table chased the server in a corner. The man asked the teenager if he wanted to wear the coffee maker next to him and continued to threaten.

I looked at my husband who apparently understood my state and told the girls it was time to go. Without a beat, my youngest says that the man must have had a long day. However funny the comment was, the speed for which my husband threw a cash tip was even better. The manager began to enter the scene to stop the event before physical contact started. When the manager provided a buffer, we left the event for which it was. My kids were relatively unaffected by what they saw.

Customer service is naturally hard and I pity the server for the situation for which he was working in. At the end of day, being treated like a person is a basic right.
