In the past two years, we have lost two of our local miniature golf courses and tonight we visited the last one in our area. The worse part is that this visit may be the last time we play the game there as they recently announced that this season would be their final one. That golf course will turning into condos the next year, the same fate that the driving range faced three years ago. My kids are devastated that they know losing the one with holes dedicated to their favorite cartoon characters.
My children love playing miniature golf and we will likely now travel 45 minutes to the closest course. We have a popular driving range chain location within a half hour of our house, but a five year old may not be who they want swinging a golf club. I love the kid, but a golfer she is not. Her slightly older sister is the type of player that shouting fore was made for. With the amount of high school golf teams in the area, it is amazing that we are in the process of losing our last miniature golf course that also has a driving range as well.
The first one that we lost was a small putt-putt that was a much older than most. My husband played a lot of miniature golf as a kid there and it was frequently visited by our local professional hockey team players before they moved their practice facility. It was not uncommon to see a Stanley Cup player or two playing the hole in front of you. That golf course was taken by imminent domain for a fire station and the second one we lost was for a similar reason. Of course, we are losing the last one for more housing.
Our kids love playing sports and now we find ourselves traveling further for miniature golf until they are ready to play golf. I guess it will be more of an adventure now!
