What says 100 days of school better than a DIY shirt?
100 days of school is a big deal, especially to little ones in elementary school and my children are no different. Every counting adventure always hits its peak at 100 and with the special centurial day also marks passing the halfway mark during the school year. My children’s school always welcomes creativity on this unofficial holiday whether it’s dressing like a centurion or having one hundred things on a shirt. Some children even have professional shirts made while others just do stickers. I dressed the girls up like elderly senior citizens last year, but with the harsh winter weather that we had in January, we went for a art project instead.
I had a $15 voucher and a 20% off coupon for my favorite craft store, so we did what we do best and planned out a project. Being under the weather for the past week, I opted for delivery of items which was the only thing I ended up paying for. I ordered two small child sized shirts for $2.50 each and a tube of fabric paint for $3.99. A four pack of animal stamps for $1.49 was absolutely a steal and the only supply we used at home was a paint brush. Doing the math, the total came to $10.48 ($7.98 if it was one shirt) and after the 20% coupon, the total came out to $8.38 plus tax. My voucher covered the full amount with the price exception of the delivery. If I was well enough to go to the store, it would have been a free shopping trip!
Preparation included putting the fabric paint in a paper bowl and a layer of newspaper to cover the table. A lecture of how we handle permanent fabric paint was discussed with the girls and each one stamped their respective animal of choice 100 times each on their white shirts. After both shirts were stamped and had titles painted on to them, they were placed flat to dry in a locked room to prevent real paw prints from the cat being placed all over.
The girls were both pleased with their work and both wore their shirts proudly to school. Not only did we count to 100 each, but we also allowed some of the cabin fever energy be released on stamping out animals. A good crafty time was had by all!
