Mr. Groundhog Please Don’t Look

Did you know the groundhog has seen his shadow more than not?

In Gobbler’s Knob, Punxsutawney’s most famous resident is preparing for his most important day of the year tomorrow morning. In mere hours from now, Punxsutawney Phil will make his prediction for the 128th time and although he has only failed to see his shadow 20 times or 16% of the time, I really hope he does not see it again tomorrow. With the amount of lights lit up and the cameras flashing in the small Pennsylvania town 80 miles northeast of Pittsburgh, it’s quite hard to not see one’s shadow in the town’s yearly spotlight. Hopefully, being a daddy now, he’ll oversleep his alarm tomorrow and miss the sunrise.

This winter in Pennsylvania has had a long stretch of below average temperatures that has caused most schools to max out their number of remote learning days already for the year. With the remote learning option in mind, most schools have reduced the number of makeup days which might create an interesting situations should winter continue well into February and March. This winter has also been snowier than the past two years and some local small towns has have declared state of emergency for running out of road salt. Typically our last snow is normally between March and April so it may get a little more dicey on the roads.

A poll was taken in the house and 33% of the family think that Punxsutawney Phil will not see his shadow. Everyone hopes that the winter will end, but all are not realistically optimistic that it will happen. Both of the girls came home from school with groundhog art projects yesterday and will likely be awake when the resident of Gobbler’s Knob is pulled out of his slumber tomorrow morning. Regardless of his prediction, one thing is for certain, we are ready for winter to be done!

Will his shadow appear?
