Not So Lazy Sunday

This isn’t no procrastination station.

The morning started for Momma by a five year standing above her. The alarm would not ring for another twenty minutes, but to the determined daughter, that did not matter. There were things to do to and sleep was overrated by the young child. Momma’s back cracked as she sat up as if her body was saying “I am up, I am up.” Putting on the glasses, the imaginary white flag flew signaling that the day had begun.

Church outfits were laid out while the children quickly munched on their fruit and toast. Momma’s coffee mug sat untouched with hot coffee that was ready to be consumed, however time would only make the much needed caffeine grow cold. The purse was checked to make sure that crayons and other valued tantrum avoiders were packed to avoid any undo drama. Momma rounded the troops and their dad into the car as it was time to go to the early 7:30am mass.

After church that did not have its normal first of the month donut social, the family went home where Momma started writing two dozen birthday invitations. The vision of the party’s details written in purple ink danced in her head and the only option to remove the handwritten letters in her head was to make soccer snack bags. Eight brown bags were decorated with bingo dabbers and food smelling markers. Each bag was filled with a bag of cheese cracker sandwiches, fruit snacks and a birthday invitation. The bags were sealed at the top with a pipe cleaner tied in a bow. All the bags were placed in a box with care.

Once the bags were complete, the seven year old’s project for the week was started. The last week of school for the year was designated for a book camping week. Most of the parts were already in the house and the backpack was quickly filled with books, a beach towel, a lantern and sunscreen. When a quick search of an extra flashlight was unsuccessful at home, a trip to the dollar store was warranted. A ladybug flashlight was found along with several other things Momma did not know that she needed. Once she got home, the project was complete and the backpack also received a school issued laptop with its charger by its side.

The remainder of the day was filled with cooking and preparing everything for the start of a new week. Clothes were laid out, snacks were placed in the backpacks and the events commenced with bath night. Momma was more than ready to go back to bed knowing that she would be woken up the next morning by her alarm clock. Sunday had been a day, but surely not a lazy one!
