When is it too early to start a Christmas wish list?
A popular online shopping website doesn’t think it’s too soon as yesterday our mailbox was blessed with a thick toy catalog. Of course there was only one in the mailbox and not two which ultimately leads us into two children fighting for their opportunity to have a moment with the book. I asked a couple of our neighbors without kids to see if they had received the same catalog, however we struck out. One kid at a time with the second child within grasp of the catalog picks their favorites by circling the toys with crayons and demanding that all desired presents are purchased for Christmas. This process started last evening and continued on after the sun rose this morning. This catalog is worshipped every year and usually ends up with bunny ear corners as well as having ripped pages. It is quite possibly more valuable than the final presents under the tree.
Our girls still believe in Old Saint Nick, but they have been informed that they are getting a slightly smaller than normal Christmas due to relatives traveling out of the area for the holiday. The girls have also been told that the smaller than normal Christmas is also due to a big family vacation slated for next year to a popular theme park. With those statements already outlined to these ladies, our daughters have been circling every toy that they want, even those they already have. After all, how many toy barns can you have? Apparently two are not enough. I have always preferred a smaller more religious holiday while my husband loves to go all out for the holiday. So in my house, the catalog is a very big things for my kids as ornaments are important for their daddy. Luckily, we already have started our shopping a while ago when we see things are on sale and still have room in the Christmas budget for their favorite catalog toys.
So is it too early for Christmas wish list? While we start purchasing items when we see a good price and making homemade crocheted items, the month of October is too early for my family to start ramping up the Christmas excitement. We have Halloween to get to, we have at least five more weeks of soccer and its still over 70 degrees outside. Let fall happen, there are pumpkins to decorate, candy to eat and leaf piles to jump in. We’ll celebrate winter and the holidays when we are ready!
